Profile of ANTHONY M SHANIL FERNANDO MBA Anthony Shanil Fernando is a partner, handling Commercial Law and arbitrations, at Anton Fernando Associates, and director of AFA Corporate Services Ltd, Corporate Secretaries and Strategic management consultancy company. He obtained a first class honours pass with a prize in Commercial Law, for his Attorney at Law exam, at Sri Lanka Law College, where he started the first Law students Human Rights Society in Sri Lanka. He is also completed his Solicitors final exam in London, and is an Arbitrator at the ICLP Commercial Arbitration Center and have appeared in international ICC arbitrations. And is a registered Company Secretary. Deputy secretary and board member of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka . Shanil obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and researched on “Electronic Data Interchange for Facilitation of International Trade & Multimodal Transport” which is now been implemented by the Sri Lanka government. Shanil was involved in a NGO in taking Computer and English literacy to the grass root level program in Sri Lanka. Shanil Fernando is the Managing Director, of a BOI approved foreign Joint venture, World Express (CMB) Ltd, A Supply Chain and Logistics Management Company, providing International Freight Forwarding and is one of the largest trucking and, Custom House Agents, in Sri Lanka. The first company to submit Electronic Data Interchange Customs Declarations to the BOI and Sri Lanka Customs. Shanil was involved in the EDI trial runs and giving a feed back and advising the E Services Sri Lanka to amend the systems to suit the Sri Lankan needs. Shanil was a member of the board of Directors of Urban Development Authority (UDA), Overlooking the legal Department of 7 lawyers, and Paliyagoda Warehousing Co Ltd, under the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of Sri Lanka. and was a member of the steering committee of the Ministry. He was also a nominated member of the Investment committee of the Employees Trust Fund (ETF). Shanil followed postgraduate courses, at the University of London on a Commonwealth Scholarship, and at The University of Texas at Dallas, on International comparative Law and the University of Prince Edward Island Canada on Human rights. Shanil was also awarded the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship to follow a training courser in South Asian Corporate Management in Tokyo Japan. His power point presentation on Human Resources development was judged the best presentation of the participants at AOTS Japan. He was a visiting Lecturer in Organization and Humana Resources Management, where he has trained world prize winners twice, and lectures in Electronic Commerce & Supply Chain Management. He is a certified trainer on Corporate Governance, and was trained by Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance London. He is an old boy of St. Peters, and D.S. Senanayakka college and captained the school athletic team for three years which won the Tarbot shield thrice during his captaincy. Shanil is the Sri Lankan representative for the International Multimode Transport Association in Geneva. He founded the Legal and Social Development Foundation a NGO promoting consumer, environment protection, Human rights, E commerce & logistics management. Council Member International Chamber of Commerce ICC Sri Lanka Branch He was the President of the Postgraduate Institute of Management Professional Association Alumni of the Postgraduate Institute of Management of the University of Sri Jayawardanapura. He is the founder trustee of the PIM Professional Association Foundation created to grant scholarships to MBA Students, and was the past Vice President of The Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan. Shanil was a recipient of the Achieves Award by the Post Graduate Institute of Management University of Sri Jayawardanapura (PIMPA).
